U.S. Census Office, Statistics of Iron Ore Mined in the United States...,1860 (1864)

This is a table from the 1864 U.S. Census Office report following the 1860 Census, which shows various stasitics on the iron ore mined in the United States during 1860. We used this data to create a graph showing the iron ore mined per state in 1860, just before the Civil War. The original table, recreated table, and graph can be viewed in these spreadsheets. The graph we created illustrates the advantage the Union had in regards to iron ore production prior to the Civil War.
