U.S. Census Office, Quantity of Tobacco Grown... (1864)

This is a snapshot of a table from the 1864 Census Office report following the 1860 Census. It shows the quantity of tobacco grown per state in 1850 and 1860. The tables are separated by regions of the United States and we used them to create both a series of bar graphs and a tree map separated by the regions of the United States. The original table, recreated table, and graphs can be found on these spreadsheets. We wanted to highlight the importance of tobacco as a cash crop, as well as the key producers of tobacco during this time.
