This is a table from the 1864 U.S. Census Office report following the 1860 Census, which shows the various occupations of immigrants arriving to the United States. This original table, a recreated table, and a tree map we created from the data can be viewed in these spreadsheets. We constructed the tree map from this data because we wanted to illustrate the most common occupations of immigrants coming to the United States during this period of history.
