U.S. Census Office, Number of White Males in the United States between the Ages of 18 and 45 years (1864)
This is a table from the 1864 U.S. Census Office report that followed the 1860 Census. It shows the number of white males of military age in the United States in 1860. We used this data to create a bar graph comparing the amount of white men of military age in Union, Confederate, and Border States. The original table, a recreated table, and graph can be found in these spreadsheets. We wanted to illustrate the advantage the Union had over the Confederacy in terms of military strength prior to the Civil War.
