U.S Census Bureau, Farms; Acres of Land in Farms, (Improved and Unimproved), Average Number of Acres to Farms (1864)

This is a snapshot of a table from the 1864 Census Bureau report following the 1860 census, which shows data on farms in each state. We created a series of bar graphs on farmland acreage using this data, separating them by Union, Confederate, and Border States. The original table, recreated table and graphs can be viewed in these spreadsheets. We wanted to illustrate the amount of acreage of improved and unimproved farmland each state had in 1860, just prior to the Civil War.
