Data Literacy for Social Studies, Production of World's Top Twenty Food Crops in 2022
We used data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Statistics (FAOSTAT) to create this bar graph of the top twenty food crops in the world in 2022. The bars are color coded to indicate food crops that originated in the Old World versus the New World, or that originated in the Old World but are now grown primarily in the New World. Such data provides insight into how the Columbian Exchange has shaped food production and consumption into the present day. Data from FAOSTAT is regularly updated and can be used to reflect more up-to-date information as needed.
