Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, The Columbian Exchange

This map from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History depicts the movements of people, animals, plants, and microbes across the Atlantic Ocean in what historians refer to as the Columbian Exchange, which followed the voyage to the Americas by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The interactive elements of the map provide information about what moved, where it moved to and from, and what impact the movement had on people. It can provide a good starting point for investigations of the Columbian Exchange and its consequences.
