Data Literacy for Social Studies, Estimated Immigration into the Thirteen Colonies and the United States by Legal Status and Condition of Servitude, 1607-1819
Historian Aaron Fogleman features a table on estimated immigration into the thirteen colonies and the United States by legal status in his article, "From Slaves, Convicts, and Servants to Free Passengers: The Transformation of Immigration in the Era of the American Revolution." Here we have provided a spreadsheet with Fogleman's original table, as well as a recreated table from which we created a stacked bar graph. The table and graph provide insight into the number of free people, indentured servants, convicts and prisoners, and enslaved people who entered the colonies from 1607 to 1819.
