John Patten (?), A Trader's Map of the Ohio Country (1753)

Fur trading played an integral role in commerce in North America prior to American independence from the British. As such, fur traders were in frequent contact with Indigenous Peoples. This map, most likely created by fur trader John Patten,  depicts the landscape of the region surrounding Lake Erie making note of hills, mountains, waterways, and Native American villages.
