Data Literacy for Social Studies, Tax Collections in America Under the Different Revenue Laws, 1765-1774

"No taxation without representation" was a rallying cry of the American Revolution--a reaction to the taxes the British government levied on the colonists to help pay for the French and Indian War. We created this graph from U.S. Census Bureau data to show the amount the colonists had to pay in taxes from different revenue laws from 1765 to 1774, leading up to the Revolutionary War. The spreadsheet includes graph, along with the original Census Bureau data and a recreated table of the data used to create the graph.
