Eugenia A. Wheeler Goff & Henry Slade Goff, Goff's Historical Map of the Spanish-American War in the West Indies (1899)

This map, created for the Fort Dearborn Publishing Company and copyrighted by Eugenia A. Wheeler-Goff and Henry Slade Goff for Goff’s Historical Maps for Schools and Families, depicts the Spanish-American War in the Caribbean. It highlights the islands of Hispaniola (Haiti & The Dominican Republic), Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Lesser Antilles. The map provides detailed information about the islands and illustrates U.S. Naval movements across the region, including descriptions of significant U.S. military interventions such as the bombardment of towns and the surrender of Spanish troops. It also provides a highlight of the Santiago Campaign in June and July of 1898. A result of the Spanish-American war is that United States influence continued to grow as it acquired control of new territories around the globe, including the annexation of Hawaii in August of 1898.
